Predicted taxa

SpeciesID scans your genome against the rMLST allele library with BLASTN. Each matched ribosomal protein (rps) allele is assigned its lowest common taxonomic node — the lowest taxon shared by all genomes carrying that allele — and these are combined to predict the taxon below.

  • Rank is the taxonomic rank of the predicted taxon (for example species, genus, or family). A species-level rank is the most precise result.
  • Taxon is the name of the predicted taxon.
  • Support ("allele support") is the percentage of matched alleles that support this taxon out of all alleles across the reported taxa. A single species-level result with support above 90% indicates a high degree of confidence.
  • Taxonomy is the full taxonomic lineage of the predicted taxon, from domain down to the reported rank.

Results reporting taxa from different bacterial phyla, or a species with unexpectedly low support, can indicate DNA contamination in the input assembly. Where two taxa share a genus and one has high support (>90%) while the other is very low (<10%), this is strong support for the high-support species rather than contamination. The downloadable JSON lists every matched allele and its support for closer inspection.
